DEVELOPMENT – Zimmer Development Company proposes multi-million dollar student housing development near Florida State University’s Doak Campbell Stadium.
Last Thursday, the City provided conditional site plan approval for a development that will create a village of 11 new buildings tucked in between Gaines Street, Lake Bradford and the Sterns-Mosley neighborhood.
The project aims to transform the area, which will be primarily accessed from the rear of the Bank of America building on Lake Bradford, into 192 apartment units for college students, a total of 600-bedrooms. There will be a secondary eastern access point at Mosley Street.
Developer Landon Zimmer told UrbanTallahassee that careful planning has been undertaken to incorporate quality urban design features such as a greenway connection to the St. Marks Trail, Pocket Parks between buildings and preservation of the existing tree canopy that exists around the project site.
The development will also contain a designated Game Day Area and Pavilion on the portion of the property closest to Doak Campbell Stadium and a centralized pool and community court yard.

Last week the City Commission unanimously approved the sale of a 2.6 acre city owned parcel to the developer for this project. Local Commercial Real Estate Broker, Peter Gonzalez of NAI TALCOR, assembled the parcels for the Stadium Enclave project. While additional approvals are needed, developers expect to receive all permits to proceed and have construction completed for a Summer 2018.
