This may be slightly off topic, but the light on CCNE at Automotive Way (the back entrance to Mahan Vllage) has finally been activated. I only mention this because it has been flashing yellow for a couple of months, and I saw several people not recognize that it was about to turn red this morning.

I think it is to make traffic that much worse on CCNE near Mahan.

Ok, seriously, I realyl don't know. I think once the Mahan Village is open for business, it might provide good access. Someone mentioned that it is too help with the K9 development. I am not sure how much that helps that because when I used to ride my bike, I would go back in that area and where the light is really is a back entrance to the area. I am not sure that much traffic will be coming out of there, but I could be wrong since the residential part is probably not built yet.

Lousy Publix...

Have perfectly good stores, and leave vacancies in shopping centers to build across the street.

I think people in Tallahassee worry too much about who's going to fill vacated store fronts. This city does a commendable job reusing those spaces as compared to others throughout our state and various other cities our size around the country. That said, I can't fault Publix for seeking to improve the quality of service it provides to its customers. I wish there were more companies that took pride in their corporate image and took steps to improve upon or build new facilities (Sears, KMart, City Hyundai, just to name a few).

It's hard for me to think of Publix as lousy considering the fact that they've helped to maintain and enhance the overall quality of life we enjoy as a community. So what if they leave an empty building behind here and there. Eventually someone scoops them up (Hhgregg, Golds Gym, State of Florida...)

I agree florida , Publix is are nicest kept stores in town , So if they want to give us nicer stores , I am all for it. For the empty stores , they will fill up with new retail before you know it. I just wished other stores in town would do so too. Like Sears . Kmart and Macy's .

KMart really needs to spruce things up! I honestly think more people would shop there if that store was in better shape. I don't bother to even look at K-Mart's newspaper circular because I just hate that store soooo much. I like to go to places that are clean and inviting, and K-Mart definately isn't.

Re-Submittal
3. Mahan Village Shopping Center (TSP100004) (11-21-20-439-0000, 11-27-20-210-0000 & 11-27-20-227-0000) located on 19+ acres at 3122 Mahan Drive (the former Proctor Cadillac site). The proposed project is the construction of 130,000 square feet of retail commercial space plus 15,000 square feet of restaurants, 8,000 square feet of general offices and 8,000 square feet of medical offices. The property is zoned CP (Commercial Parkway). This item continued from the 02/25/10 meeting.

Coming across the desk of growth management... looks like we will see construction begin soon.

^I'm not sure this item on the GM agenda as a re-submittal means construction could begin soon.

The site plan looks interesting. Automotive Way appears to continue along the back side of the building as if it might loop around to line up with Weems Road at the light.

I passed the other day but I didn't notice anything more than a space available for lease sign. Did you see something with a rendering of some type?

So looks like our two anchors will be Publix and Academy Sports... I'd rather have seen Adademy Sports sign the old Sportsman's Warehouse building. I can't think of a more perfect, more obvious replacement store for that spot.

The sportsmans warehouse building was way to large for academy sports... and the rent they charge for the place was insane.

Thats why they didn't locate there.

Im still ticked at Publix moving so many stores around town.

I drove by on Sunday to see if their was any progress. Doesn't look like any changes are being made or any signs of potential construction. Reminds me of those vacant lots and abandoned homes around FSU campus and on Hayden Road that still say 'condos coming soon summer 2006'. Hopefully we will see some changes made because these empty car lots are an eyesore no matter what side of town they are on.

There was a couple of vehicles in there today. Have not seen any progress on anything. So i am guessing they are going to level the buildings that are there now?

By vehicles, do you mean of the construction/demolition variety, or like a pickup truck?

I passed today and I didn't see anything that would make me think activty is pending.... There were a few vehicles... but nothing that looked like it could demolish. Keep an eye out to see if they add more trucks to the site next week.
