Hi everyone! Long time reader coming out of lurking to mention what is perhaps the single most important driver of (future) growth in Tallahassee and Leon County-- the 2010 US census. I did not see another forum topic about the Census so I created this one.
I was impressed to see that Leon County has set up a web site to promote the Census: http://leoncountycensus2010.org/. While I'm very happy to see it is an issue that the local politicians see as important, compare the website to that of Miami http://www.miamicensus.com/Census/Home.html and especially Los Angeles http://www.lacounts2010.org/. I mention Los Angeles because of something they promote the census on many Los Angeles web sites that residents visit. Here in Tallahassee, there is a blurb about the census on the main TalGov web site-- but not on the actual site residents go to in order to pay their utility bill. Maybe that would be a good place to remind citizens about the important census?
Something important from the Leon County web site-- students are (supposed) to count as Tallahassee residents. I wonder if many of them know that they should fill out the census forms when they arrive in the mail at their Tallahassee address?
(according to the Leon County web site) Forms will be mailed out mid-March (so, next week) and April 1st is "Census Day".
