FSU Basketball 2009

New postby florida » December 16th, 2009, 10:19 am

I've been religiously watching FSU basketball every since Leonard Hamilton took over and overall I'm very pleased with the progress the program has made under his leadership. That said, after last nights game against Georgia State University and several others I feel the need to vent about this year's team. I won't vent but I will ask: does anyone else think they turn the ball over a tad too much? Also, what's with the poor free throw shooting?

These seem like basketball fundamentals and the players on the team, many of them, are going on their 2nd and 3rd years. I see no reason for these type of mistakes to reoccur as much as they do. Can someone shine some light on this?

They are definitely in a bit of a transitional period since losing TD. I am a diehard FSU BBall fan and even went to Boise for the NCAA tourney. We lack a PG and that's been a problem. Alabi is still clumsy though he did manage to put a heck of alot of points on the board last night but the coaching needs to be called into question re: why on earth they would pass the ball to Alabi when he's got 3 GaSt. players surrounding him. In the last 2 minutes, our players did this twice, maybe 3 times. We have never been a solid freethrow team but did get progressively better last season. I tend to think we play up to the level we "expect" the other team to play. The good thing about all of these non-conference games is it gives Hamilton, etc the chance to really see where our weaknesses our prior to getting into ACC play in January. One thing that has been improved on this season is conditioning though. That was more than prevalant in our win over Alabama in the Old Spice Classic. By being able to swap out so many players every few minutes, there's less exhaustion. I tell you what though, Snaer is an exciting player to watch. Last night he finally looked like his NCAA nerves have gone and he's going to be fun to watch over the next 3 seasons.

It was an exciting game for sure. Singleton had a great game with a career high # of points, but missing 5 3-pointers was hard to watch. I wish he and Alabi would just stick to inside of the perimeter and assist getting all those missed shots into the basket. On another note, the latest bracketology projection (Lunardi's) has us an "8" seed which I personally hate....the winner of the 8/9 game plays the # 1 seed in the next round which could be 'Nova...I cant believe I am saying this, but I think I'd prefer a lower seeding..lol..like 15th. At least at this point while our play is still a tad inconsistent. It amazes me that Ga Tech is still ranked 22nd and a higher seeding (6) than us, even after our sweep of them, but I am sure there's some insane basketball logic to justify it....not my cup of tea so I don't pretend to understand it..lol.

^Well what amazes me about the whole GA Tech thing is how they seemed to ignore FSU's victories over them both times. Not much was said about us beating them but I'm pretty sure much would have been made of them beating us had they won. Atlanta has pull... clearly we don't.

We got some mention...but you're right, FSU will never get the attention that the tobacco alley schools get. Its frustrating for sure. Lunardi's tweet during the day yesterday did say a sweep of Ga Tech would be a huge chit for us, and during the Va-Wake Forest game, the commentators talked about it for some time. Even Vitale throws us some love once in a while. Its a shame FSU doesn't get behind our basketball program like they do football. At the game yesterday I couldnt help but notice all of the center court lower level seats that were empty (not the student sections but the season ticket holder/booster seats). I cant understand why if those seats are still empty after a certain point in the game, they aren't opened up to anyone. It was frustrating looking at all of the people sitting in the nosebleeds who couldve helped fill up the lower level so on TV it actually sounded like a packed house.

We'll I must note that I've been keeping my eye on the attendance numbers at the men's Bball games and it is on the rise. So far in ACC play we're averaging over 9000 per game which IMO isn't bad in a 13000 seat arena.

FSU Forward, Jordan DeMercy has left the team

New postby florida » February 1st, 2010, 9:47 am

Jordan DeMercy, a junior forward, has played his last game at Florida State. DeMercy, a reserve who has played in all 21 of the Seminoles games this season, said in a statement FSU released on Sunday that “it is time for me to seek opportunities at another institution.”

We were cheated out of a win the other night vs. Maryland. I just wanted to go on the record in saying I don't think that call at the end of the game was accurate when our guy hit the shot to tie the game. Instead of us taking the points and the extra shot for the foul, we were called for an offensive foul (charging). Upon replay one can clearly see the movement of the defender's feet when our guy was in the air shooting the ball.... I was very disappointed with the officiating of the game to say the least.

Gotta say I'm proud of both FSU Basketball programs for their regular season performances this year.

The Women finished 2nd in the ACC - Behind Duke
The Men finished 3rd in the ACC - Behind Duke and Maryland

Here's the Men's ACC Tournament Bracket:

I am excited too Florida. I saw the ladies play in a tournament out in Vegas back in December and was at our Men's game in Boise last year for Round 1 of the Dance. The ACC is definitely different this season for men's bball but so is alot of the other conferences. I plan on being at the first game our Noles play in the dance this year too, wherever the heck that might be (please NOT Spokane...its crazy difficult to get from Tally to Spokane). If we fare well in the ACC tourney this season...we should get an ok seed...anything but an 8/9...I don't want to play the #1 seed in the next round!

So much for that 3rd seed. There goes my weekend...

One of these days FSU is going to learn how to take care of the ball on offense. WAAAAYY too many unnecessary turnovers. WAY TO MANY!
