Morningbird CafeMEMBER REVIEW -- Some friends and I ate lunch today at the Mockingbird Cafe. I am not the type to formally review restaurants so I won't go into a lot of detail but I was pleasantly surprised.

The service was a tad slow but I was there with good company so I didn't pay too much mind to it and again, the meal made up for it. Their menu consists of all of the basic lunch staples, a variety of salads, sandwiches and burgers. They also have daily specials. I ordered the Yellowfin Tuna sandwhich (tuna with goat cheese, hard boiled egg, onion and some type of vinegrette dressing with lettuce - hold the tomato..lol) with fries.

I wasn't sure about it as its not something I would normally choose but was very pleased with my order. It was more enjoyable and tastier than I expected. And it was a large portion too.

The fries were extra as their sandwiches normally come with either potato chips or potato salad. I didn't mind the extra money as I just really wanted the fries but it made for a more expensive lunch (not of any concern to me mind you).

Crepe Vine Location on North MonroeMEMBER REVIEW - ...Friends and I ate at the Crepevine's new location on N. Monroe next to Krewe de Gras today. They delivered menus and 20% off coupons to the downtown offices yesterday announcing they are open.

It is my understanding this is still a "soft" opening however. The place was busy at lunch and still seems kind of empty (like it was missing some decoration or something, but that just may be how they plan to keep it).

Ray's Steel CityLast week on the website it seemed Ray’s Steel City Saloon (Ray’s) was all the buzz in the restaurant forum on UrbanTallahassee and I wanted to know why. At the suggestion of the membership I took to the streets to try it out.

This was not my first attempt at trying Ray’s. I recall an effort to do this a few years ago when it first opened, only to be turned around by the fact that I couldn’t find a parking space. I experienced the same this past friday when I arrived at the restaurant. Yet, determined as I was I crossed the street and found a place in the spill-over lot fronting a nearby hotel.

From the outside, Ray’s doesn’t look like much. The building is a dry gray color, which could easily be overlooked if you’re not looking hard enough. Fortunately they have a nice sign out on John Knox and way-finding signage from N. Monroe directing you to the business. The establishment has two components, an upstairs dining room and below there’s somewhat of a hangout spot, with pool tables, gathering space, and beverage service.

The grand finale is, of course, the fireworks show, powered by the City of Tallahassee Your Own Utilities and will feature some of the industry's newest, hi-tech pyrotechnics.

Genghis GrillWhat really!?! you still haven't been? Yeah you're trynna save that dough...youre waiting for the time when you're dragged there by some friends and forced to dine!

Wait NO LONGER, here's the review:

I went on a Wednesday afternoon around 3:55 pm, just before the lunch deal ends at 4:00; didn't do the all can eat, because that's all I could afford. It wasn't full, but moderately populated. More people came in after 5 pm. I was seated by the hostess and given a "walk through" of the process. There are two lines on either side of the "buffet" bar; a good idea considering the volume of people who are said to come. I noticed the seating variety is similar to chain restaurants like Chili's and TGIF's - with booths, padded back benches, and what appeared to be a full bar. I think there was even an outdoor patio. For my trip it was a help that no one was in line, this gave me a chance to go back and forth between toppings as often as I wanted.
