What you're looking at above is my half eaten meal from a pretty cool Tallahassee owned restaurant known as 1 Fresh Stir Fry. The story of why this bowl is half eaten and how we ended up eating at this restaurant is detailed below, but for those who don't have time, I'd just like to say this is a very nice locally owned restaurant, a casual type of place that you'd want to take someone if they've come to Tallahassee from out of town and they want to eat at a place they don't have where they're from.
The story of how Butterfly and myself wound up at 1 Fresh Stir Fry is rather interesting. Friday night after visiting Dorothy B. Oven park's Winter Wonderland of Christmas lights, we were hungry and I suggested we go to the Moto's restaurant that recently opened on N. Monroe Street across from Boston Market. When we arrived at Moto's, we were impressed by the signage on the outside, it had that brushed silver look, modern logo, and it had a name like moto. We figured it would be a grab and go Oriental style restaurant. It wasn't.
Moto has more in common with a more upscale restaurant than any grab and go. Moto's ambience is more suitable for a romanitc anniversary date. The menu is for sushi lovers, and those with $30-$40 to spend on a steak. We quickly realized we were priced out of our range and were slightly embarassed when we gave up our tables to leave. But the kind woman who greeted us and sat us down was very understanding.

REVIEW -- As I sit here trying to contain my full tummy within my belt, I'd like to share with you the details of my most recent visit to The Bamboo House, arguably one of Tallahassee's best and most unique restaurants.
For years I had been under the impression that the Bamboo House was a Chinese Restaurant, however, I was told by the restaurant owners that they are in fact Korean. If I had to estimate, I'd say a family of about 10 run this restaurant which is located on 6th Avenue between North Monroe Street and N. Adams Street.
According to the father of the restaurant, the place started off as a Lucy Ho's in its early years. Once Lucy Ho's vacated this facility for a Governor's Square Mall location, the current owners took over the place. It's simple in appearance, no flashy lights, or extravagant decor -- instead they reserve the spotlight for their food.
Adventures of a Food Fisherman - I thought I would take a break from Japanese food this time and do a retro-review. I’m going to go back in time and write about Bird’s Aphrodisiac Oyster Shack. The place still exists but it is by no means new to the Tallahassee scene, and it’s so awesome that I just couldn’t bear not to spread the good gospel of Bird’s.
This all started around two years ago. My car club was hosting the annual north Florida meet for European car drivers. Trey, one of the principle owners of Bird’s, showed up to hand out flyers and encourage members to come by after the gathering for $1 PBR (Pabst Blue Ribbon) and some great food. Well, I was foolish and asked for a rain check. Bird’s sort of drifted into the background for me and stayed there until I got my first apartment the following summer. Looking for some place tasty to spend a Saturday afternoon, a friend and I stumbled upon Bird’s.
MEMBER REVIEW - ...Friends and I ate at the Crepevine's new location on N. Monroe next to Krewe de Gras today. They delivered menus and 20% off coupons to the downtown offices yesterday announcing they are open.
It is my understanding this is still a "soft" opening however. The place was busy at lunch and still seems kind of empty (like it was missing some decoration or something, but that just may be how they plan to keep it).
I think this is possibly one of the best local restaurants we have. Not for the fact that the food is fancy or the atmosphere is plush, but because the experience is unique. Going into Crystal River is like dining inside a pirate's ship. Each visit to the Crystal River, whether it's the Tennessee Street location in the picture above or the location on N. Monroe Street, the service is always great. Furthermore, as the Capital City of Florida, it is vital we have a quality, inexpensive option for seafood eating -- Crystal River fits the bill.
