URBAN UPDATE -- There's no doubting the fact that the Northeast Update is everyone's favorite, and we know why! This bustling area north of Highway 90 and east of Meridian is home to some of Tallahassee's finest neighborhoods, schools, businesses.
We last visited the area in May and it was then we noted significant progress on what will soon become Tallahassee's largest Publix Supermarket, which is now getting some finishing touches within the Tamana Shopping Center that fronts Thomasville Road. Along with the new facility that is now under construction, the shopping center itself is getting spruced up a bit! New signage will soon be erected along the roadway, the entire parking lot has been reconfigured, there's new landscaping, and the other businesses within the plaza will see a fresh new coat of paint to match that of their big new neighboring anchor store.
URBAN UPDATE -- This is a Special Edition Urban Update for the Northwest Quadrant as there are a few projects in this area that are nearly complete and our Project Trackers felt the need to capture them before they open.
The two notable projects nearing completion in the Northwest Quadrant of Tallahassee include a brand new Stand-Alone CVS Pharmacy building, recently constructed at the intersection of Monroe and Capital Circle where once stood a Citgo Gas Station and Subway. Those buildings were cleared from the site and have been replaced by a nicely built CVS Pharmacy which will replace the store located across the street in the Oak Valley Publix Shopping Plaza.
URBAN UPDATE - We have Florida State University to thank for most of the project updates in this latest Urban Update Edition. Since nearly 400 new people have registered since last month's update, we think it appropriate to again explain what exactly an "Urban Update" is.
First, the name "Urban Update" simply comes from the fact that our name is Urban Tallahassee and we're updating you on the progress of ongoing construction projects. Currently, UrbanTallahassee is updating one of Tallahassee's four quadrants once a month in these official updates, although we're constantly keeping watch on Tallahassee's growth and keeping you abreast of any notable changes daily.
Tallahassee can easily be divided into four quadrants. We typically follow the same model used by Realtors in Tallahassee (sometimes crossing the boundaries if necessary). The quadrants are:

This Urban Update takes us to the Southeast quadrant of Tallahassee where there's still some rather interesting construction activity underway. Starting with Capital Circle Southeast you'll notice that traffic remains shifted to the south side of the roadway while work continues on the northern side. We took a peek at the site slated for the Sembler Southwood Jamestown Development and did not note any new activity at this time. Cruising through the Southwood commercial areas, we took note of the nearly complete Scottsdale Academy (pictured above) and the progression of work on the stately Florida First District Court of appeals. Where told expected completion of the new stately courthouse is set for December/January 2011. Meanwhile we stumbled upon new construction on a 2-story office building now underway across the street likely to serve as a law firm with additional offices included within.
