TALLAHASSEE, FL - The “Gateway to Tallahassee” has officially been jolted by neon lightning. Thursday, August 27, 2009, The McKibbon Hotel Group opened the 7-story, 162-room Aloft Hotel on the north west corner of Call and Monroe Streets in Downtown Tallahassee. Construction on this hotel began in May of 2008, and over the past year (as Urban Updates have shown), we’ve watched this hotel quickly grow out of the ground.

Many Tallahassee residents don't get an opportunity to see the inside of hotels that are built right here in our city, but sometimes it can be a rather interesting experience to see what our visitors see when they come here. Here is a look at a hotel that is more in line with Tallahassee's "Southern" accent than the neo-city look of many other hotels we've seen built recently. Please enjoy this hotel, and provide your feedback on what you think about this hotel. Special thanks to the management hotel for providing us with a tour of this new facility. Room rates start at $69.99/night.

As a Marriott Brand, Springhill is "select service", offering a pool, gym, office area, conference room, complementary breakfast, and high speed internet access in all guest suites.

The images you'll see on these pages were taken on a Sunday after the main mall had closed, but while the mall's various anchor, and junior anchor stores such as AMC Theaters, Ross, Shoe Carnival, Barnes & Noble, remained open. This may help to explain why there are so few cars in the parking lot of the images, and why there are few people seen on the interior shots of the mall. This is a snap shot of the mall today, we hope to be able to update this item as the mall undergoes its proposed renovation.
