Ran across a few graphics depicting an urban townscape for Crawfordville that may be in the works. I just wanted to throw them up on here for your thoughts.

This looks great! Crawfordville definitely needs some road/traffic improvements. A coworker of mine lives down there and she said it is oftentimes horrid traffic going home. This would open up the whole area much like widening capital circle southeast for the influx of traffic to Southwood.

Ive always felt Cville could use a sense of place making downtown. Frankly, I think they need a bypass road to get the pass through traffic out of the city center. This does look good as a start to improving Crawfordville. They should look at becoming a city as well. It is the only county seat in Fl not incorporated. Lets also see a little place making for downtown Woodville too!

Looks like what Gaines should have been.

Pretty sure there wasn't nearly enough room on Gaines for this.  They went with probably the best design for the space.

My point remains. Gaines was a 4-lane corridor reduced down to 2 without any new or improved roads to make up for the decreased east-west access.

If famu connected with Jackson Bluff then it might have been a true alternate to Gaines.  As it is and as can be seen, it connects so far south of Gaines with Lake Bradford that it wont do much IMO.

Pensacola St (two lanes westbound) and St Augustine/Madison St (two lanes eastbound) were already in place and have sufficient capacity to make up for much of the Gaines St spillover.  However people are accustomed to their ways and change seems to be difficult to adapt to for drivers in this town.

I do agree though that the city completely missed the mark with FAMU Way.  It connects way too far to the south on Lake Bradford to be a "replacement" for the old Gaines Street when it was used primarily as an E/W thoroughfare. I am worried that although it will be a nice addition to the southside, aesthetically, it will be greatly underutilized by many of the people who used to use Gaines.

However it will be good for people coming into Downtown from TLH as they will skip the ugly area between Doak and the Railroad crossing over Lake Bradford and will give them a nice boulevard leading into the Downtown area.

Anyway, to get back on track with the original topic of this thread, it will be interesting to see if this actually comes to fruition down in Crawfordville.  The town is definitely missing that "small town" atmosphere - always reminded me more of suburban rural commercial sprawl than a small town south of the bigger city.

I respectfully disagree with the notion that FAMU Way runs too far south of Jackson Bluff to be a suitable E/W alternative to Gaines and I would even offer that as far as creating an Airport Gateway the chosen route advances the cause. Yes there is a zone between the southern terminus of FAMU Way and Gaines Street that has to make a decision about which route to take but the distance between the two roads is not that great. I see this route crossing in front of FAMU providing an opportunity to revitalize that area as well as giving FAMU its own dedicated gateway, which in turn makes Gaines Street available to serve as a dedicated Gateway to FSU from the South. I see travelers using the FAMU Way route more to access downtown in the future than I see them using Gaines unless they purposely take a more scenic route.

It looks like they're considering a different terminus option at Lake Bradford and Gamble. It would create an additional stormwater "pond".

They still need a FAMU Way extension to Jackson Bluff. And it's more than a little disappointing those massive power lines still line the street.

Totally thought this was the FAMU Way thread when I was searching for it. My bad.

That looks great. Like already said. Wish Gaines St would have looked like that

Though one has to ask 'why have the Gamble extension run on the north side of the new pond'? Its redundant and just merges back into the FAMU Way extension on the southwest side of the new pond right by Lake Bradford. It would be a waste of a road and create a real headache of having two T intersections withing a hundred feet of each other. Or is it an either/or option, either a route around the south side of the new pond or a route around the north side of the pond. Having both is just plain idiotic.

I assumed it was an either/or proposition.

After reading through the questions more carefully, I believe you are right. I would then offer that the Gamble option is already in place and I believe is relatively new. The other option includes new road bed and bridge and really adds nothing to the equation as the circle at Gamble and FAMU is going to be there regardless. In fact, the storm-water pond can be built with either road configuration.
