Orange Avenue Housing Redevelopment Project

Unread post by seminole » Mon Mar 26, 2018 7:13 pm

Shockingly amazing if this project does come into fruition and the Columbia Housing developer has a history of making projects like this one come true. An absolute gamechanger for South City:
If all goes well, Kuniansky said, construction could begin October 2019 toward phase one of the master plan, which would be outside of the Orange Avenue property.

Im all for it. People deserve a better living situation, and could help reduce crime/eyesore of the area.

If we're going to redevelop Springhill Road, we can't just do it so that there's a nice gateway into the city from the airport. We need to raise up the lives of the folks living in that part of town as well. This development sounds like it will do that. I'll be interested to hear what Jeremy Matlow thinks of this plan, since supporting the south side is one of his biggest campaign talking points.

I can appreciate the revitalization to south side. I hear the city is REALLY wanting to put the new police station on the south side. I’ve read the old Leonard Wesson school (Meridian Rd and Orange Avenue area) is a target location. If that happens, does south side/south city truly remain affordable. What makes my mind wonder even more is now there are major changes happening or getting ready to happen in major south side areas:

1. Lake Bradford to the airport gateway
2. Cascades project and SOMO/S. Adams developing
3. South City reconstruction and the relocation of the police station to the same area.
4. Capital Regionals plans to build an ER branch on the SS.

On top of this, Southwood is continuing to develope as a community as well. It would appear the south side is being corralled on all sides. Don’t see how it can continue to be affordable to the people that currently live there. I’m all for improvement. Just curious about the possible outcome of such improvements.

Tallahassee is truly changing overnight.

Interesting tip about the police station. Any clue what'll happen to the old one if/when the new one opens? It's stilling on a pretty prime piece of real estate in midtown right by Lake Ella.
