Yes. Yes it is.

Some have been a skeptic on this project from the start. For good reason.

I know that on August 10th a Kidz Bop concert will be held here since all my friends with tweens are grumping about having to attend this mess.

Ha! Damn it I wish there was a "like" button here.

I was at the dead mall on Saturday for Pints for Paws. Walked around the Centre beforehand & it was so depressing that I had to drink even more.  :D

I was there for that event, too. Went into the Urban Food Market for dinner and it was packed. Loved seeing people in there eating and enjoying the good food. The employees were upbeat and nice, the food was great, and the place was clean. Never would've guessed the Centre was a dumpster fire.

Some additional news on new things happening at Centre.

Ross is having their floor space reduced to create space for a new store next to them which is going to be...

Hibbett Sports http://www.hibbett.com/

Ross people are not entirely happy giving up so much space and they would not go into why they were forced to when there is so much empty space inside the mall proper.

Also, the old Shoe Carnival is going to become the new location for the Dollar Tree store as it will be moved out of its current out-parcel location on Monroe Street.

The Ross people are going to be gone in about 6 months as the old Office Depot space off of W Tennessee St has been completely gutted and small structure work has begun. Strange that the Dollar tree is moving to a shared building but they really need a new space as the current one is in poor condition. Good to see they got one new buisness to move in but its still a long road to recovery.

Good positive movement. Hopefully they bulldoze that building since they are moving next to Ross.

Hibbett sports should do well also since they no longer have a sporting goods store on this side of town.

Also lemongrass is exciting, I hear it's amazing!

From what I have seen, Hibbett mostly sells team sports gear for teens and youths and has only a smaller variety of general outdoors merchandise that you typically find in Dicks, Sports Authority and the like. At least the two I have been in are like that. The two around here(Tennessee Street and Crawfordville) aren't very big. Anyone know if they typically have larger stores?

According to the Ross people, the space of the Hibbetts will be about 1/4-1/3 of the floor space of the Ross.

I don't think Ross occupies even 20,000 SF just going off the top of my head visualizing it, but I may be off. I think the two Hibbetts I know of are under 5,000 SF, so that sounds about right though.

And it literally is 1/4-1/3 of the Ross floor-space as that is what they were required to give up by Centre. The Hibbetts' will have the existing wall with the old Shoe Carnival (soon to be Dollar Tree) on one side and a new wall between it and the remainder of Ross.

Could it be possible that Dollar tree is moving temporarily in order to build a free standing store in the old location's place. Cause the current store is near Monroe and can be seen from the street and the place there moving will make them just about invisible to any passing traffic on Monroe and that's not good for bidness.

Not "bidness"!

It wouldn't be a bad idea to put the Dollar Tree in line with the Ross... etc.. and demolish the eyesores near the road. The Monroe entrance to the the Centre of Tallahassee is very unattractive and uninviting. I really wish I understood what the development plan was from the onset of this project as it has really turned out to be a disappointing revitalization. I'm almost tempted to say the Mall was better off before Blackwater acquired it...  None of the stores from the former food court have re-signed leases. The so-called renovations of Belk and Burlington have not shown any noticeable improvements to me. There's no improvement to the flow foot traffic between the AMC and the new amenities near Dreamland and the Urban Food Market primarily because the door leading into the mall from that area appears locked and uninviting. I. just. don't. get. it.

Best guess is because of the noise issues with Myers Park and fact city did not go through with sound wall. That probably means Cascades is going to be the more 'low-key' programming then walls of sound type bands venue.

In line with what is going on with Edison, the production/booking company for Cascades is the Moon's management and that is apparently being looked at as well in regards to FBI investigation. Word around the campfire is the Moon owner got a serious sweetheart deal to do the shows at Cascades and possibly some of the street amenities on Lafayette (including 'fixing' up the back of Parkway Center on Lafayette) have 'questionable' origins.

I believe Cascades amphitheater holds only a couple thousand people and acts like Styx, Kansas, ZZ Top and such require larger capacity venues. I don't think it has anything to do with the noise. It was obvious it would not be able to compete with the Arena at COT given its design and capacity. The Cascades Park venue was a good idea..... as long as there wasn't another outdoor venue that would be much better. Now the Arena is up and running, they are having concerts at Doak and Cascades Park has been relegated to holding Shakespear festivals and hosting free regional acts and the occasional Peter Frampton or Alabama Shakes show. It may be good that Cascades stays more "community" in use while the Arena at the COT will be more of a mix with national acts.

Yet another sign of how bad things are on the retail side at the Centre....
http://www.tallahassee.com/story/news/2 ... 953027001/

The excuse they are giving is that there is a scheduling conflict, but no specifics on what that conflict is. The reality is there was literally no kids (and thus their parents) using Santa Land at the Centre. Every time my wife and I were in there on weekends, Santa and his Helpers were doing nothing and there is hardly any shoppers. This goes hand in hand with them not having the skating rink this year, as they took a blood bath on the overhead vs payoff doing it last year. For all intents and purposes, the Centre is a concert and movie venue with no functioning retail operations other than B&N, and even they are getting killed on lack of holiday shoppers this year.

I saw the same report this morning and thought to myself "how he heck do you manage to screw up a mall Santa!?" The Centre is a giant joke.

I'll throw this out. AMC should make overtures to the developers of the new Market Square project to move to the new theater complex being built there. I'd be willing to bet AMC would leave the Centre in a heartbeat if they could get some relocation cost recovery on such a move.

We could say the same for just about every business that remains at the TLH Mall. Its a depressing thing to experience ...

Should never have built up the "big announcement coming soon" teasing cheesecake only to disappoint with a small case of cheesecakes at the Urban Food Market.

The Urban Food Market itself is an outstanding venue that is unfortunately not well exposed to the community. It offers so much, at such a high quality but the roll out was not well received by the market. PLUS The area near the AMC should have been where they put the Urban Food Market, not where they put it.

Dreamland BBQ, a solid product IMO, is HIDDEN from the community. This would have been outparcel near the road type business not tucked deep inside the center.

The so-called $3 mil. renovation of Belk was a joke. I know that type of money does not go as far as it used to but I don't see much difference at all, it feels like they just moved the racks around, the outside is unchanged.

The school should not be in the shopping area. Why not use the former Gym that sits in the corner  of the property for such a use?

Target should be in this plaza, or a Best Buy... some type of electronics store.

I honestly feel like it is on life support and its a hinderance to efforts elsewhere in the city because of the uncertainty about whats going on here. Retail/Malls are struggling in general, and because of that I'd rather just have 1 really nice Governor's Square with the stronger stores that the Tallahassee Mall has relocated, than the situation we have today where both malls feel crippled.

I'm just tired of not having in Tallahassee what other cities our size or smaller have. I'm tired of things being scattered around the city when they should be together. Imagine what a mall (anywhere) with Urban Outfitters, Jos A. Bank, DSW, Nic's, Hearth & Soul in addition to what's already at the Governor's Square and Tallahassee Mall would be! Our city needs a retail center makeover urgently.
