REVIEW — AS I SIT HERE TRYING TO CONTAIN MY FULL TUMMY WITHIN MY BELT, I’D LIKE TO SHARE WITH YOU THE DETAILS OF MY MOST RECENT VISIT TO THE BAMBOO HOUSE, ARGUABLY ONE OF TALLAHASSEE’S BEST AND MOST UNIQUE RESTAURANTS LOCATED IN THE HEART OF MIDTOWN.
For years I had been under the impression that the Bamboo House was a Chinese Restaurant, however, I was told by the restaurant owners that they are in fact Korean. If I had to estimate, I’d say a family of about 10 run this restaurant which is located on 6th Avenue between North Monroe Street and N. Adams Street.
According to the father of the restaurant, the place started off as a Lucy Ho’s in its early years. Once Lucy Ho’s vacated this facility for a Governor’s Square Mall location, the current owners took over the place. It’s simple in appearance, no flashy lights, or extravagant decor — instead they reserve the spotlight for their food.
The Buffet is small when compared to Mega Chinese restaurants in town, however, the flavor is BIG! Among my favorites: Special Fried Rice, Beef & Broccoli, Stir Fried Chicken & Shrimp with onions and bell peppers in Butter Sauce, PERFECTLY SEASONED & STEAMED Green Beans, Honey Chicken, Sushi, Freshly cut produce, and their famous sugary “doughnut” now featuring a small hole in the middle (previous models of the “doughnut” didn’t have holes).
Dining costs $7.00/person for the all you can eat buffet. Bamboo’s sweet tea is outstanding, VERY sweet with a slight “touch of Asia” (Watch out Grandma!). You’ll find dining here — true Asian food lovers. The atmosphere is relaxing, with seating for about 50 people. The family running the restaurant provides top-notch customer service, and make sure to keep the dining area very clean. When you walk in, seat yourself and someone will be over quickly to ask you what you’d like to drink.
If you’ve not had the pleasure of dining at the Bamboo House, I’d highly recommend it as a true taste of some of Tallahassee’s finest food!
