Railroad Squares House of Plywood Reborn as Breezeway Market
TALLAHASSEE – Railroad Square Art Park is excited to announce the grand opening of our Breezeway Market, located in the former House of Plywood building at 618 McDonnell Dr., inside Railroad Square.
The Breezeway Market is a fun and colorful “main street” built inside a large, historic industrial warehouse. Nine little cottages (complete with picket “fences”!) line the main street, each featuring works of art or a unique local business.
This one-of-a-kind shopping destination is like nothing else in Tallahassee and is sure to be one of the most photographed spots in town! What else can you expect from Railroad Square Art Park, Tallahassee’s Art & Culture District!
A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held on Thursday, November 2nd at 1:30pm, to celebrate the opening of this new addition. The House of Plywood is one of the original buildings on the Railroad Square property and was used by the McDonnell Lumber Company to produce and store lumber. In more recent years, it housed a sheet metal company before being purchased by Lily Boynton Kaye and Adam Boynton Kaye, co-owners of Railroad Square, in March of 2016.
Imagined by Property Manager Lillian Finn, the concept of a village-like market with a large breezeway enabled the preservation of the authentic warehouse, while creating a progressive, fun, artistic retail market that fit the overall theme of the art park. The project took 19 months to complete and will be officially unveiled to the public during November’s First Friday Gallery Hop on November 3rd, 2017.
