Description: Proposed is the removal of 7,330 tons of soil above the Senate and House parking garages which have compromised the waterproofing system of the structures. The Senate garage will be reconstructed at a cost of approximately $20,000,000. Plans call for replanting 13 live oaks through the plaza. Still in the concept phase, the park will include an area for veteran, military and law enforcement monuments as well as displays touting Florida’s cultural and industrial legacy, like the orange and space industries. Arbors and trellises for shaded seating areas and 67 sabal palms will be planted — one state tree for each county.
CURRENT STATUS: The structural repair subcontractor is approximately 90% finished with interior repairs. All interior repairs completed middle September. Metal deck has been installed and is covered with the new concrete topping slab. The mezzanine wall, Madison Street, and Monroe Street exterior walls were built out. All medium voltage cables were pulled through the new conduits for the reroute across Madison Street and the connections were made. The switching sequence began at the end of August and will continue. The condensate water line reroute along Adams Street is in place except for the final connection points. Making the final connections to the new reroute done in September. The demolition and abatement of the abandoned steam pipes was finished. New interior lighting conduits have started to be installed on the lower level along with the fire protection system.
