NAP Releases Initial Project Renderings

PRESS RELEASE -- Today, NAP and its local design team released the first iteration of architectural renderings for the project. The design draws from the surrounding downtown buildings, historical structures and the nearby Edison restaurant to create a compatible but distinct character unique to the Cascades District. High-quality exterior materials reflect a sense of permanence and respect the civic pride for Cascades Park. The buildings also offer ample space for outdoor dining, retail displays, elegant landscaping and water features – all of which will contribute to a dynamic pedestrian experience.

The design will continue to evolve over the next 6 to 8 months as NAP works to make this development something everyone can be proud of. Please see Question 15 on CascadesProject.com to view full-size renderings and the most recent site plan.

CRA Board Directs Staff to Complete Development and Funding Agreement

This afternoon, the CRA board authorized staff to complete the Development and Funding Agreement with NAP for the redevelopment effort. This agreement outlines how the project will be funded and confirms the community’s commitment to achieving a vibrant destination that supports the vision for an 18-hour downtown.

NAP will invest the full cost of the project – $132 million – up front, with local government contributing to the public components, including public parking, historical plaza, restoration of the former Leon County health building, support space for the Capital City Amphitheater and extensive improvements to public infrastructure. To learn more about how the project will be funded, please see Question 4 at CascadesProject.com.

Community Group Shares Vision for Historical Plaza

The Community Historical User Group – comprised of local educators, preservationists and Civil Rights activists – submitted their vision for how to best honor the history of the site in a large public plaza that will be incorporated into the development. The group worked with NAP’s design team to prepare a narrative design criteria that outlines what should be included in the plaza and will serve as a guide for the designers that ultimately bring the plaza to life. The document incorporates community feedback to ensure the space will reflect the interests and wishes of local residents.

NAP deeply values the time the group invested into this process and announced today that the names of the group members will be featured in the historical plaza as a way to permanently acknowledge their involvement in honoring our history.

We look forward to keeping you informed as we work to ensure this project provides both economic and community benefits and establishes an iconic sense of place in Downtown Tallahassee.

Path clears for "Madison Mile"

The company recently closed on 6 acres of land at the corner of Jackson Bluff Road and Chipley St., which houses two vacant buildings.
