TALLAHASSEE DEMOCRAT - Construction work for a 20-mega watt solar farm could begin in the next six to nine months on land owned by the Tallahassee International Airport. It would be built on 100 acres on the south end of the airport's property between Springhill Road and the north-south runway. Chris Curry, aviation director for Tallahassee International Airport said airports are struggling to make use of non-aeronautical land.
The solar farm will be built by FL Solar One LLC. It would create an opt-in option for city customers, who can have an alternative energy source. Officials said the farm could supply roughly 2 percent of the system's overall energy needs.
