PRESS RELEASE – As progress continues on the FAMU Way project, the City of Tallahassee is providing an update on construction now in progress. Phase two of the project is well underway, which includes extending FAMU Way from Pinellas Street to Gamble Street and the construction of a roundabout on Gamble Street.
Crews are putting the finishing touches on the new roundabout, including the decorative concrete and lush landscape to match the design of the completed portion of FAMU Way. Barring any unanticipated delays, the roundabout is expected to open to traffic by December.
Along the route of the future roadway between Pinellas Street and Gamble Street, crews are installing underground stormwater pipes and making water/sewer upgrades. This portion of the roadway and the adjacent section of the Capital Cascades Trail are anticipated to open by early fall 2018. When complete, this trail segment will connect to the St. Marks Trail, ultimately providing trail-goers the exciting opportunity to travel from Leon High School all the way to the City of St. Marks!
Additionally, Tallahassee Junction Pond Park, a new stormwater facility and park amenity located along Mills Street (see map below), is expected to open in early fall next year. When complete, the park will feature picnic pavilions and a walking trail.
