Headlines – Documents released by Facilities Services at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University suggest the school’s division of athletics is in the process of beefing up facilities for its Football Athletic Program.
Dated February of 2016 and recently uncovered, space requirements show a need for new coaches offices, meeting rooms, classrooms and a team meeting room totaling nearly 10,000 SF. The Offense, Defense meeting classroom would be a 45-seat capacity room with theater style seating. Theater seating would also be provided in the larger 120-seat Team meeting room consuming nearly half of the 10,000 SF at 4,500 SF.
Support space for the program would include a new weight room at 30,000 SF, Athletic Training Room with hydrotherapy equipment, a players and coaches locker room, and a lobby complete with the helmets of Rattler Alum. in the NFL, trophy and memorabilia displays.
Academic space is also proposed as a part of this project, although this will consume a much smaller amount of the building totaling 5,058 SF for a 20 individual tutor rooms, 2 large group tutor rooms, 1 large computer lab, and an open study area.
Fans of Rattler football will also see improvements as new benches/seating for 35,000 are sought in this proposal. Additional support space for home and visitor locker rooms, 25 luxury suites, club level, loge boxes, food service, concession stands, retail sales, restaurants, press box, media support, restrooms and other stadium area support space will total 140,136 SF.
Rounding out the proposal is a new 17,500 SF student health facility and a dormitory for 250 students totaling 37,500 SF.
Timeline for this project is currently not disclosed. The site of the proposed new Football facility is the current Bragg Memorial Stadium location.
